“Healing Seasons” with Cindy Branham & Tucker the Mustang!!

From the very beginning of my life, I knew was going to be working with horses.  Some might say my first word was neigh!!  As different Seasons of my life have blossomed horses have been the vibrant bloom that stands out the most.  What is it about horses that attracts us so?  The last several years of my life, the season has been rather dry and cracked.  Pain really started to shadow the joy that horses give me.  Pain can come in so many different ways,   Physically and emotionally.  Fear is the scar that is left on us as we try to look past and heal from the pain.   Fear and pain effect all aspects of our lives and can be the crutch that keeps us from reaching our goals and dreams.  Fear not only impacts our lives, but our Equine friends to.  As I work with so many humans and horses I see so clearly how much our lives can parallel with the horse.  Take for instance the wild horses I start.  Fear of the unknown, a self protection and self preservation is the first emotion these wild horses express when faced with their first humans.  This is a natural response.  How we as the human respond to this first emotion is how the wild horse will choose to react.

Many times when we are introduced to a fearful horse whether wild or domesticated; we have the tendency to think if we can contain them physically, we can control their reaction.  Unfortunately this usually fills the horse with more fear and produces a reaction of resistance and fight.  With some understanding of the horses flight response and their need to follow and trust we can teach the horse to trust and obey without loosing any of their spirit and heart.

I would like to introduce you to Willow.  Willow is a middle aged black and white pinto mare that was rescued from an unfortunate situation.  She was born to a world that didn’t give her what she deserved.  She was sold to a human that had good intentions when sending her to a trainer; however the trainers heavy hand and predatory training methods couldn’t break her will or spirit.  She was named “un-trainable”  and destined to be labeled as a dangerous and bad horse.   She learned to be evasive and to defend herself if she couldn’t first run away from humans.  Fear overwhelmed her and she lost all  trust in the human race.  Then came Vickie Jonson, a human that had a heart and plan to help this lost and fearful mare find her faith again.  Vickie spent a year slowly gaining this mares trust.  However, Vickie needed to move on with her life and could not take this horse with her, she needed help and contacted me.

When I first saw her, she was standing in the corner of her stall, eyes wide and shaking because of the strangers in her barn.  I can only imagine what goes through a horses mind after they have been so badly mis-treated.  After about 45 minutes of my pressure and release work, I had her haltered and on our way to a bigger paddock where I could move her feet a little more.  I decided after working her for another hour or so that she was not beyond healing and that she had a chance at recovery.

I receive countless offers of free horses all the time.  I am so concerned of this epidemic of so many un-wanted horses, trained, un-trained, abused and problem horses.  We as humans have a responsibility to protect the horses we personally own, and teach all those around us of the need to adopt unwanted horses.  I can not take them all in as I have to be responsible myself for the horses in my own family.  However, if we work together to educate the horseman of today of humane and gentle training practices and of the need to find loving and responsible homes for the unwanted horses we can together interrupt the cycle of abuse and irresponsibility.  I have a passion for the American Mustang and all the un-wanted horses of today and I invite you to continue to follow my journey with “Willow” as she goes through this healing process.  Next week you will get to meet my friend Janelle Wells who has committed to help Willow heal.  I believe this horse was meant to be a beacon for the abused horses out their that haven’t been given a chance.  “Willow” means healing and so she will.  You can heal to, I know I am not just physically with my knew knee, but emotionally and spiritually as God leads me into this new Season of my life.

Isaiah 58:8 Amplified Bible

8Then shall your light break forth like the morning, and your healing (your restoration and the power of a new life) shall spring forth speedily; your righteousness (your rightness, your justice, and your right relationship with God) shall go before you [conducting you to peace and prosperity], and the glory of the Lord shall be your rear guard.

Tucker the Mustang Update……………………
I also wanted to introduce you to a very special little boy.

This little boy is Tucker the Mustang’s biggest fan!  Being just 3 years old,  “Cruzi” needs a goodnight story to put his mind at ease and be ready for sweet dreams.  So his mom and grandma plug in You tube and find his favorite horse “Tucker the Mustang” videos every night!!  He is a little cowboy that is dreaming of his very own “Tucker” some day.  Here is what his Grandma had to say, ” I spoke with my daughter last night to tell her Cruzi was going to be on the blog and she said Cruzi also watches the movie Spirit 5 times a day and calls the horse Tucker. His latest phrase is Tuckers a mustang!!! He watches your training videos so much that when he comes to my house and plays with my  6 dogs he put a leash on them and plays like he doing long line work. He takes the empty cardboard rolls from Christmas paper and makes the dogs jump them like those things horses jump…. I could go on and on ….”  I am so glad Tucker the Mustang has inspired this handsome young cowboy.  Don’t miss your opportunity to continue to follow “Tucker the Mustangs” Trails of Training as he will be the vocal point of 2012!!  He is one of the most personable horse’s you will ever meet and he is such a ham!!  Can’t wait to spend more time on his back this year!!

2012 Cindy Branham “New Year, New Knee, the Bionic Cowgirl is ready for 2012!!

Today I am excited to say that 2012 is a new year for me!!  I have been dealing with my crippled right knee since 2007.  The horse wreck that left me with not only physical but emotional scares is finally behind me for good!!  On Dec 11, 2011 I received a new knee!!  I am officially the “Bionic Cowgirl”!!  Just over a month ago I was having to use a cane and or a wheel chair if I had to walk very far.  This not only was hard on my body, but very hard on my emotions.  I got a whole new outlook on life, from a totally different position.  Pain was an intense part of my everyday life.  Now, the pain isn’t totally gone, but different in that I know it is just part of the healing process, so I am very excited about the idea of having no pain and a stable knee.  Thank you to all of you who kept me in your prayers.  God is good and helping me with my Physical Therapy and recovery.  I have a lot of muscle strength to rebuild, but I am well on my way back in the saddle and to work!!

Back to Work after Total Knee Replacement!

I started back to teaching lessons last Sat. And I had a blast!!  I have a recliner set up in the indoor arena for me to camp out on and still teach!!  Wow, I am so spoiled!!!  R&D Ranch www.randdranchllc.com is such a blessing to me!!  Contact me today and schedule your private training session or group riding lesson today!! http://www.cindybranham.com/lessons.html

2012 will be an exciting year, due to my knee I do not plan on training any outside horses in 2012; however this just opens up more of my time to work with people and their horses together as a team.  My one on one training program with horse and rider is a favorite part of my career and I look forward to helping more partnerships grow into healthy working relationships.   My clinic schedule will be released soon and this is another great opportunity for me to work with horse and rider teams, helping a group reach their own personal goals.

I also plan on focusing some of my time towards further educating the Nation on the plight and progress of the American Mustang.  I so look forward to spending more time on my own mustangs developing them into great representatives for the American Mustang Breed.  Look for the history and the present status of these amazing horses!!

The UHCA (Ultimate Horseman’s Challenge Association) is also going to have an exciting year.  I am honored to be on the UHCA Board and can tell you the Association has new and exciting plans for 2012.  I am going to be hosting a UHCA race June 24th so mark your calendars for a great time!

The  Rockin RC Extreme Team’s informational meeting will be January 21, at 6:30pm here at the R&D Ranch.  Last year was a great success!  Not only did all of the team have a successful year, we had five of the team qualify for the EXCA World Championship and two of them made it into the finals.  Five UHCA Champion and Reserve Champion buckles went to our team!!  We look forward to 2012 and adding some new members!!  Lessons, Monthly team practices, Team Travel to Races, and Coaching at the Race is sure to give you and your horse the boost you need to have a fun, safe, and successful year!!

Are you looking for your next Cowboy Race horse or Trail horse?  I am now offering my two Extreme Mustang Makeover Mustang Mares from 2011 for sale.  These two horses have so much potential to be amazing partners.   I am looking for the right match for these two mares.  They just need some experience riders to continue their journey of training!  Go to http://www.cindybranham.com/adoptamustang.html to find out more information on these two great mustangs!!

I am claiming this verse this year and encourage you to search for God’s blessings in all of your life.  It is so easy to look on the down side of things and ignore all the blessings that surround us every day.  “The Lord your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in His love He will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing”

(Zephaniah 3:17, NIV)

“A Merry Mustang Christmas”

Christmas is almost here!  Are you ready?  As I find myself shopping for all these gifts it is easy to get all wrapped up in the shopping and not the actual giving.  What is behind a gift?  Are we giving because we have to or because we want to.  A friend and I studied the Bible last night and we talked about God’s love and what would our lives look like if we loved all those around us like He loves us.  His love is unconditional and He always puts our needs above His even at His own expense.  Is it easier to shop when you love the person you are shopping for?  Is it easier to listen to, submit to, obey, reach out to, and help those that we love?  Of course, it is!  Is it always easy to love everybody…….?   nope, not for me, but with Christ’s love in me, I can.  So as I look at shopping this year I want to remember that Gods love is to abound within me so that the gifts I give represent how much I care.

Where does love come into horsemanship?  I truly believe horses in their own “equine” mind do connect and love each other.  They learn to bond and be dependent with each other and have a family group.  When we enter into their equine life, we have a choice to make.  We can demand obedience and take away the horses choices and make it impossible for the horse to keep its spirit.  This creates alot of resistance and fight and can make the relationship a “work cause I have to” one.  If we present to the horse the “gift” of a trusting partnership, the horse willingly wants to obey and give in to the relationship as to make their lives better.  My two mustangs, Joshua and Tucker are a great example of what that can look like.  I am so blessed to have both of them in my life and cherish the trust they have put in me and am honored that they find me worthy.

May your Christmas be filled with God’s love in your life and the lives around you! Merry Christmas!

The Rockin RC Extreme Team Extreme Cowboy World Championship or Bust with Cindy Branham

Hellooooo…..Winter is on its way to Kansas.  75 degrees yesterday, 38 today with snow tonight.  Wow, seasons can change so fast, in our personal lives to.  Had a good week preparing for the Extreme Cowboy Race Worlds competition.  We leave tomorrow.  I will be coaching five of my students from our Rockin RC Extreme Team.  I am so proud of them!!

Justin Branham, my son will be riding his horse Dreamer(In a Tucker Trail Saddle) in the youth division.  It has truly been a blessing to watch him grow in his horsemanship and his personal life.  Twelve years old and an amazing horseman.  Last year he made it into the finals in the Young Guns division and finished overall in the top five!!

Alaina Rhonke, 15 years old is one of my students that just three years ago was afraid to go any faster than a walk and didn’t want to go out of the round pen.  This shy, quiet, and scared little girl has grown into a outgoing and determined young women.  I am so proud of Alaina for facing her fears!  She is now Cowboy racing at top speeds and performance!  She assists me in my training program and I am proud to have her help.

My adult riders in the Novice division are CC Metzler and Sharon Reed.

CC is riding his mustang, Shelby.  I picked her in the Topeka, Ks BLM adoption to use as a demo horse for my clinic.  She was a beautiful mare who was ready for a relationship.  CC adopted her and enrolled her in my training program.  She has real issues with fear in her life.  She really struggles with relaxing and worries so much.  However, she trusts me and CC and has so much talent under that fearful mind.  CC is a new rider and has worked very hard to build a trusting partnership with his mustang.  CC and Shelby are  first place in the Novice Division in our local UHCA Cowboy Racing Division!  I am so proud of them both.  I also will be riding Shelby the Mustang in the Pro division! (of course, I will be riding in my Tucker Trail Saddle!!)

Sharon Reed (riding in a Tucker Saddle)  is my dear friend and also the owner of the R&D Ranch along with her husband, Bill Reed.  She is riding her quarter horse mare Baily.  She is a fabulous horseman who has also faced her fears and worked very hard to build her performance horsemanship.  Baily is a strong willed and powerful independent mare and Sharon has built a trusting and working relationship with Baily stepping up to be the leader and create a willing partnership with her horse.

My last, but not least student going to Worlds is Patti Sweet.  Patti will be riding in the Classic division.  Patti is one of the toughest people I know, at the young age of 60 something :) , she is determined to overcome her physical disabilities and compete in Cowboy Racing.  Her horse Shilo was rescued by me twice, yes twice.  Many years ago I found him, starving and unbroke.  I adopted him myself, rehabilitated him and found him a new home.  Unfortunately, he fell into bad hands after he left my home and had a rough life for several years before God sent him to me again, in need of rescuing.  Patti, also needed a little rescuing herself and so the two of them healed each other.  Two years later the two of them are inseparable and a beautiful example of how horses and humans can renew joy in their lives together.

No matter the outcome of this World Championship I am so proud to be the teacher of these great people and their horses.  Competition gives us goal to reach for. Which gives us a reason to build a stronger relationship with our horse and work hard to teach them new things.  This continues to renew our minds and keep us growing together, never getting stagnant and bored.  If we keep our minds and hearts wrapped around the joy these beautiful animals give us, then the competition itself becomes fun and exciting no matter what the outcome.  Lets remember that and not let stress and pressure influence our joy.

Rejoice in the Lord always, and again I say Rejoice!  Thank you Lord Jesus for giving us the blessed horse!

Thank You Tucker Trail Saddles! Go to www.tuckersaddles.com for your perfect trail saddle!!

“Success” or “Failure” Tuckers Amazing Grace & Cindy Branham SEMM 2011

Canter Perfection!

Go to   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZQSqg7Ts11o  to watch video from SEMM 2011 Round 1 the Pattern & Freestyle portion

Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord,” plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

“I want to be successful – don’t you? And the awesome news is that God wants us to be successful as well. When we know and seek God’s perfect plan for our lives, we will find success. Our immeasurable value rests solely in the fact that God created us, that His stubborn love sets us apart and the amazing fact that He designed and empowers a unique plan for each one of us. Yes, I know that plans are rampant in your life. God loves you and everyone else has a plan for your life, right? But the only plan that matters is the plan made for you by the One who formed you – the One who loves you, knows you and has set you apart to be His own. And it is a great plan!

For some reason we tend to think that God sat down one day and designed a sinister life plan laced with pain and defeat. Nothing could be farther from the truth. This train of thought contradicts the very nature of God and misunderstands His heart – the heart of a loving Father who wants the absolute highest and best plan for His child. It is a good plan!” (Taken from “Girlfriends and God”)

This is so profound for me.  What is success?  As I work with my horses and work with my students I run into so many disappointments on a personal level and see my students disappointed.  Why do we feel the disappointments and ignore the successes!!  As I look back at the SEMM I see a beautiful mustang who did amazing on so many levels.  She came so far and worked so hard to get to the SEMM.  Even though she started to fall apart at the end of round 1, she was so great the majority of the time.  As I look at my students and the progress they make from day to day and then from year to year, I see beauty and growth and relationships building between horse and rider.  It so fulfilling to me to see where the student and their horse start from and how far they come.  But, when I see success, they see failure as their expectations want perfection NOW!!  I see confidence building, trust growing, and performance building, knowing that perfection comes one day at a time, and something we never stop striving for.

So ma be our heavenly Father wants us to look at success as He does, one day at a time, one blessing at a time.  Finding joy in the good things and letting go of the things that steal our joy.  Tuckers Amazing Grace and I have had our ups and downs, but looking at her future she is an amazing horse with a beautiful heart and soul.  Lets let go of our “failures” and hold fast to our “successes”.

Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord,” plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

Next week I will continue to give you a front row seat of our SEMM 2011 experience!  STAY TUNED!!

SEMM 2011 Tuckers Amazing Grace & Cindy Branham Round 1 “Obstacles”

Tucker's Amazing Grace's Moment

Tucker's Amazing Grace's Moment

Go to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aU4YnyhSZWU to watch Video from the SEMM!!

Since I have been home from the SEMM, it has been very busy, however Tuckers Amazing Grace has had a nice vacation!  I had a dentist come and check her teeth and give her a full work up and she defenately needed it.  I haven’t ridden her since she had her teeth done, but I am hoping it will help her not resist the bit, like she did down at the SEMM.  Here is the first video of the Extreme Trail Class, “Obstacles”.  This is the very best class she had at the competition.  Going slow and giving her time to think through her responses and choices.  I was so proud of her, as you all know, obstacles have been a issue with her not trusting me when she is afraid.  This was defenately a high point in our weekend in Fort Worth.

Disappointments come in all shapes and sizes.  It is how we move on from them that matters.  As I look back over the last four months.  So many disappointments, including Grace’s horrible injury, and yet when I look at these videos from the SEMM, I realize how far Grace overcame and how much she learned from me, and I from her.  She is a beautiful picture of God’s Amazing Grace and that is what really matters.

Next week I will continue to give you a front row seat of our SEMM 2011 experience!  STAY TUNED!!

New Beginnings……

Supreme Extreme Mustang Makeover 2011

So, the past few weeks have been some of the hardest and longest of my life.  It has been a roller coaster physically and emotionally.  I have really been struggling with understanding God’s will for my life.  Do you ever feel that way?  My faith in God is strong, but my trust meter is wavering a little.  Understanding Gods will for your life can be very hard and sometimes confusing!!  But, God knows best and I am looking to a new future with new beginnings.  I am facing a total knee replacement before the end of the year and that will mean some changes to the lifestyle I am used to, but will also mean living without so much pain and disability.

The Supreme Extreme Makeover was also a rollercoaster!!  Grace did ok, she just decided to struggle with her own will and resist again.  Bad timing, but not the end of the world.  She is going to be a beautiful partner and is getting some much needed r&r.  Hope is also getting a vacation, she is doing better and better every ride.  We just missed getting into the finals with her.  I am proud of how far they both came, especially with the setback we had.

Thanks so much to my husband Ryan, my children, my dear friend Patty Sweet, all my friends and family, R&D Ranch-Bill & Sharon Reed, and all my generous sponsors.  Premier Farm & Home, Roy Freys Western Lifestyles, Meriden Animal Clinic, & Tucker Trail Saddles!  www.tuckersaddles.com

Two Weeks left!!

Wow, can not believe I only have two weeks left!!  Really excited to go to the Makeover and really glad the hard part of training is behind me.  This is a rigorious training program not only for the mustangs but the trainers too!  Exhaustion can become a problem.  Thank goodness I have such a great team of people around me to help pick up the slack, I am letting go of.  My husband Ryan and kids, my wonderful Mom and Dad, and my great friends Sharon and Bill Reed, and of course my trusty groom and all around helper, Patti!  I could not do this without them.  They all put up with my emotional ups and downs and love me anyways.  Such, grace I see in them.  Grace has been a forfront thought on my mind as I named this precious mustang “Tuckers Amazing Grace”.  Yesterday riding her, and listening to the great old song “Amazing Grace” I felt so overwhelmed by the grace in my life, from friends, family, and most important of all our Father.  He is showing me His story and I want to continue to share it with you all.

Tuckers Amazing Grace and I felt like one, yesterday and it was great to come together with her.  She is really trying to trust, even when she is afraid, and it has been a joy to work with her, from the very beginning, with her horrible injury, to now almost healed completely, inside and out.

It is now time to put a finish on all that she has learned and work on finals freestyle to prepare for the best!!

Hopes Song is coming along great to.  She has had a hard time giving up her own control of things and deciding to follow my direction and leadership.  She has so much potential with smooth movement and great athletic abillity.  Right now I am waiting for her heart to come around, and when it does……watch out, because us girls are gonna have some fun!!!!
